Twigs – Hide / Ache

Next to nothing is known about Twigs. If fact the only official thing I can find for her is her Tumblr, which consists solely of these two videos. She looks and sounds a bit like the love child of Grimes and The Weeknd, and if that statement didn’t make you want to watch these videos immediately then you obviously haven’t been reading this blog too long.

Both videos are very simple in concept. The video for “Hide” features a headless (not really) woman with a flower stuck to her crotch touching her…flower and gyrating to the beat, which may be a little too NSFW for some people. It really only gets as naughty as the image that YouTube loads before you start playing it, so if that’s good enough for your workplace and you didn’t scroll down to the next post as soon as you saw it then go ahead and watch it. But even if you can’t watch it at work, you should still just hit play and scroll along to something more work appropriate, because “Hide” is dark and sexy in the best way possible. I absolutely love this song. The video for “Ache” is very similar, except instead of having a half-naked woman in it, it features a guy dancing around in a Bane/ninja-inspired mask made from Air Jordan sneakers. Yep, you read that right. I think you’ll agree that Twigs is definitely a new artist to keep an eye on.

The xx – Angel (live in Tokyo)

Chillout Sunday continues with a quiet, intimate and beautifully fragile live performance of “Angel”, the first song off of The xx’s new album, ‘Coexist’, recorded in a Tokyo hotel room. This love song is guaranteed to warm even the coldest of hearts.

Deptford Goth – Life After Defo / Real Love Fantasy

Chillout Sundays are back! It’s Sunday, I’m alone, I’m bored as hell, and the unusually warm September weather that we’ve been going though in Seattle has finally broke for some comforting Fall-like chill. Sounds like the perfect conditions for some chill tunes.

“Life After Defo” is one of those songs you just know that you are going to love almost the instant it starts playing. Heck, I think I was sold with that first epic bass drum beat. Deptford Goth has a voice that goes straight for the hairs on the back of your arm and puts goosebumps on your skin, and the beats sound exactly like what an epic Sunday afternoon of sitting around on the couch doing nothing should sound like. If this doesn’t put you in the mood to enjoy your lazy Sunday, then nothing will.

This video for “Real Love Fantasy” was made from National Lampoon’s Vacation by a fan using footage from the blonde on the highway scene. Pretty appropriate footage I think, since this is exactly the type of music you should be listening to while daydreaming in the car. Preferably not while driving though. C’est Non Un Blog does not condone daydreaming while driving. If we had lawyers, they’d probably tell us to say something like that.

Azealia Banks – Van Vogue

Azealia Banks definitely is a unique voice in hip-hop right now. I love that her beats sound like they were stolen from long lost underground 90’s electronic rave music and that on top of having great flow she also has the skill to sing her own hooks, a voice that stacks up with any of the great R&B singers out there right now. This video was directed by the same guy who directed her sexy western video for “Liquorice” and its sexy dark vibe fits “Van Vogue” perfectly.

Saint Lou Lou – Maybe You

Despite having only released one song thus far, Saint Lou Lou have already made me a fan with their beautifully dreamy, “Maybe You”. The band consists of twin sisters born and raised in Sweden and Australia, which as far as I’m concerned is the holy grail of pop music heritage. I’ve been consistently coming back to this song again and again for the past month or so and finally they’ve put out a gorgeous black and white video to go along with its lush soundscape.

Chairlift – I Belong In Your Arms (Japanese version)

So Chairlift re-recorded their song “I Belong In Your Arms” in Japanese, which for most bands would result in something horrific and ungodly being produced, but instead, beyond all odds, they somehow managed to make the song sound even better. Caroline is just utterly fantastic here, her Japanese (at least to my ears) clean and effortless while her voice soars to new levels of perfection. This feels like something you might hear in Japan in the mid- to late 90’s and the early internet style computer graphic visuals match that atmosphere perfectly. Come on, does it get much better than this? I think not.

Jessie Ware – Running (Annie Mac remix) (live)

Jessie Ware joined Annie Mac yesterday on Mac’s famous live DJ Radio 1 show to rock the ever-living shit out Annie Mac’s remix of Ware’s “Running”. Holy amazinballs this is some good shit. If you weren’t already a fan of Jessie Ware before listening to this track, you definitely will be after hearing this.

Major Lazer – Get Free (feat. Amber Coffman of the Dirty Projectors)

Finally we get an official video for what is so far one of the top five songs of 2012. You can’t help but love “Get Free”, from its relaxed reggae vibes to its powerful lyrics and vocals from Dirty Projectors’ own Amber Coffman, but the original video always felt like nothing more than a placeholder for the video that we now have. Shot entirely in Jamaica, this video fits the vibe of the song really well and acts as a great travelogue for today’s real Jamaica. Check it out and get your groove on one more time before summer ends:

Grimes – Genesis

Grimes has finally released an official video for “Genesis”, and it just happens that she also directed it herself. The video is pretty weird and bizarre but totally watchable, as if John Waters, Alex Cox and Russ Meyer got together to direct Sucker Punch in some alternate dimension. The surreal imagery goes pretty well with “Genesis’s” dreamlike soundscape and the more I watch it, the more it grows on me. Great stuff as always from Grimes.

Kisses – Johnny and Mary

As you could imagine I’m not a big fan of tropical climates, but the one place I would really like to travel to, that one exception to the rule, is Rio de Janeiro. There’s just something intoxicating about the atmosphere, the music, the giant Christ the Redeemer statue looking out over the city and the general culture and vibe of Brazil that is very appealing to me. It just seems like a great place to visit, which is exactly what Kisses did to make this music video for a Robert Palmer song they covered. Is it a love song? A falling out of love song? A realistic love song? I just know that I really love it. What’s better is that Kisses have a second album coming out soon, and I can’t wait for it.

The video for “Johnny and Mary” is listed as private, but you can still watch it with the password: riokisses
