Marina and the Diamonds – Primadonna

Despite sounding a lot more like mainstream pop than Marina’s previous entries to her sophomore album ‘Electra Heart’, “Primadonna” still manages to contain all of that sarcastic tongue-in-cheek energy as all of her other songs. Plus she’s such a great performer. April 30th can’t come soon enough.

Jesse Ruins – Shatter the Jewel / CSLSX – Keep On Shining / Washed Out – Before

I’ve been holding onto this gem (no pun intended) for a month now and I’m not sure why I haven’t posted Franck Deron’s latest fan video for “Shatter the Jewel” until now, aside from the excuse of pure laziness. [UPDATE: OK, it is also possible that it’s because every time I try to do my write up for this video something comes up and tears me away from finishing my post. Like the last time I tried to post this, which was exactly a week ago. I just logged on to try and write a new post when I found this as a saved draft.] Anyway, before something else comes up and pushes my posting back another couple weeks I better hurry up and finish writing so I can hit that allusive post button.

I love this video for Jesse Ruins “Shatter the Jewel”. It uses a mirror image of old industrial automotive films to create some really cool shots of cars seemingly flying right at each other. The track is fantastic too.

Since we’re on the subject of videos I wanted to post but never got around to actually posting, here are two more videos from Franck Deron that I always wanted to post but had somehow gotten lost in the cracks. (Franck Deron also did that amazing fan video for M83’s “Wait”.)

CSLSX’s “Keep On Shining” features footage from what was apparently the first ever commercial to feature a computer generated image of a woman. Oh, how far we have come since then! CSLSX’s track fits right in with the relaxed 80’s futuristic vibe of the footage.

The video for Washed Out’s “Before” is filled with found footage of 1960’s jetset mod fashion, vacations and glamour, back in that magical time when flying was fun and you didn’t look forward to a trip the same way you look forward to a root canal at the dentist’s. Washed Out’s track is so chill and relaxed that it’ll make you feel like you’re on vacation too.

Santigold – Disparate Youth

While the video for this song is nothing all that memorable, “Disparate Youth”, the newest single off of Santigold’s upcoming album ‘Master of My Make-Believe’, is pretty sweet. With “Big Mouth” and now this, it’s looking like that album is going to be a must have.

Chairlift – Met Before

Remember Choose Your Own Adventure? Well, this is just like that, but jam packed into music video form. In this alternate reality the members of Chairlift are just University Science students who learn that there are many possible alternate realities out there. From that point the video starts and you get to choose what you want to happen, to some pretty interesting results. After watching the video a couple times I managed to be a nerdy loner, start some blossoming relationships (including some lesbian beekeeper lip-locking) and go on a mushroom triggered hallucination. Oh, and the song is some pretty sweet retro pop too. Check it out, it's pretty fun.

(Couldn't figure out how to get the embed to work, so you get a trippy gif with a link to the video page instead!)

Grimes – Oblivion

Although the fan video for “Oblivion” that I posted a little while back featuring footage from Roman Polanski’s ‘Repulsion’ might still be fresh in your mind, this is actually the first official video that has been released for Grimes’ ‘Visions’ album. And oh what a doozy it is. “Oblivion” has been one of my very favorite songs recently and this video just knocked it out of the park for me.

The majority of footage for the video was shot impromptu YouTube-style at a public football game and motocross event with random people joining in/interrupting the shot, which gives the video this really authentic immediacy and feeling of Americana. The video is just so fun and free-spirited, you can’t help but love it. And Grimes gives everything so much energy. She seems to be having a blast in every shot and her fashion choices make it feel like you’re watching the trailer for the new hipster sequel to ‘Juno’. This video is can’t miss.

Yeasayer – Ambling Alp / ONE

Neither of these videos are particularly new, but I’d never seen either of them before and since I discovered them yesterday and thought that they were pretty cool I thought I’d share them with you kind folks. Plus, anything that reminds you of how amazing an album ‘Odd Blood’ is is a good thing, right? Both videos were directed by Radical Friend and both are pretty trippy. They remind me of maybe something you’d see out of Australia out of the late 80’s, even though Yeasayer is actually from Brooklyn. Both songs and both videos are pretty memorable, so if you haven’t already seen them you should definitely check them out.

(PS: The first video for “Ambling Alp” does contain some nudity, so it goes without saying that that one is probably NSFW.)

Jessie Ware – Running

It seems like I’ve been listing to a lot of this R&B-influenced music lately and I’m not exactly sure where it’s all coming from, but I’m not complaining because I’m finding some really great songs in the process. I didn’t even realize until just now that Jessie Ware also did the “Valentine” song I posted yesterday, since I found both videos from completely different sources. That’s kind of weird and random now that I think of it, but I’m not going to over-think it because this song is worth enjoying and not over-analyzing.

Summer Camp – Everywhere

You know what’s better than waking up to a new iamamiwhoami track? Waking up to a new iamamiwhoami track AND a new track from my favorite band of 2011, Summer Camp, who covered my favorite Fleetwood Mac song, “Everywhere”. This stripped down acoustic version of the song is extremely pretty and only makes my hipster crush on Elizabeth Sankey grow much bigger than it already was.

Jessie Ware & Sampha – Valentine

Here’s a delightfully pretty little love song for Valentine’s Day, titled oddly enough, “Valentine”. It has a nice indie R&B feeling to it and honestly the only thing that could make it better was if it was maybe a minute or two longer. They put the single out on a heart-shaped vinyl, for crying out loud! What’s not to love?

iamamiwhoami – sever

Probably the best gift you can give anyone is a new iamamiwhoami track, which I guess means that I have just made your Valentine’s Day as awesome as mine. (Disclaimer: It is possible that I’m the only one that thinks a new iamamiwhoami track is the best gift someone can give.) Come for the beautiful new song, stay for the weird Chewbacca-in-need-of-a-haircut mop monster.
