Where do you even start with this? “Wishes” is easily one of the most memorable music videos in recent memory. You’ve got some sort of pep rally going on where all the performers, cheerleaders, etc. seem to be trying to outdo each other in very surreal ways, and on top of that you’ve got Ray Wise singing Beach House’s song to the crowd. It’s all very weird, but in a very good way. This is definitely a must watch video.
I’m always excited for new Glass Candy, but I can’t say the same for Alberto Rossini’s videos. A lot of his videos are rather static love affairs with cheap 70’s film stock. That said, I really do love this video. There’s so much to look at and the editing of the video really pops. Fun stuff. And did I mention this is a new Glass Candy single? Life is always good when Glass Candy puts out new music. That alone is worth the price of admission. And did I mention you can download this single for free right now? What’s not to love?
It’s been a while since I’ve checked in on Krispy Kreme, er, I mean Froggy Fresh, and there doesn’t seem like a better time to do a new post than with the release of his newest video for the surprisingly powerful “Mike’s Mom”. “Mike’s Mom” is the latest chapter in the ongoing feud between Froggy and the mysteriously evil James. Is this the end of Money Maker Mike? I guess we’ll have to wait until the next video to find out.
In their last confrontation with James in “The Fight” Froggy got shot and Money Maker Mike got stabbed, so I guess there’s still hope for Mike. What’s up with James, anyways? Why is he such a dick? Can’t two men enjoy wrestling in the playground anymore?
James is one evil fucker. I mean, selling coke AND stealing bikes? What kind of monster steals bikes?
Money Maker Mike has had to take a lot crap from James, losing his bike and mom and all, but even getting shot wasn’t worse than having Krispy say he and Daniel Tosh were best friends. Krispy immediately issued an apology to Money Maker Mike saying that he is and will always be his best friend. Shortly after this incident Krispy Kreme changed his name to Froggy Fresh. Coincidence?
Autre Ne Veut is just the latest of the new trend of retro/revisionist 90’s electro R&B that’s become so popular lately, but don’t hold that against him. This is some really addictive stuff. “Counting” features a verse by another up and comer you might remember, Mykki Blanco. This is the kind of music you put over the credits of a really good movie.
My personal favorite track off of the new album is “Play By Play”. When this song builds up steam you’ll want to crank the music up louder and louder and just let that stunning sound wash over you.
The promo video for “Play By Play” isn’t so much as a music video as it is a well done lyrics video made to look like the 80’s karaoke machine seen in the official version of the video. That said, it does contain the full version of the song that includes 2 extra minutes of music that wasn’t included in the official video for some reason. It’s not something I would normally post, but the song is just too good not to share.
Like some long lost synth-pop record from the 80’s sent down to us from heaven, this new track from Mirror Kisses is about as good it gets. It’s rare that a track can grab and keep my attention almost immediately and then get better and better upon further listening, but “Runaways” does all that and then some with its synths with a sound bathed in neon light and vocals carved from a late night drive with the top down. This is one of those songs that fuels my drive to want to keep looking for new music, despite the fact that my iTunes is already filled with more music than I could ever realistically listen to. So, so, so good.
Originally leaked as just “Баллада Военной Машины Клип” with no other explanation, this new video from Midnight Juggernauts was meant to look like it was from some long lost Russian pop band. “Ballad of the War Machine” definitely has that early 70’s psychedelic pop sound, but the decidedly un-Russian sounding Aussie accents give away that this was meant to be a joke. Otherwise, it’s a pretty damn convincing video. It’s always good to see new music from Midnight Juggernauts and I can’t wait to hear the rest of this new album.
It’s getting to be that time of year when I get really nostalgic for music that makes me think of summer, despite the fact that, you know, I hate summer. But I love summer music! Goldroom’s “Fifteen” is one of my favorite summery tracks from last year, so much so that I can’t figure out why I haven’t talked about it sooner. Oh well, better late than never. It’s the perfect kind of song for that rare glimpse at Seattle sunshine I saw outside today, warm and relaxing like a summer breeze rustling the leaves of a tree.
The always fantastic HEARTSREVOLUTION have a new mixtape coming out next week and along with it comes a new video for “Pop Heart”. The song, which samples one of the best songs ever made, Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart”, is a comment on how people are more interested in watching idiots live their lives in the age of social media and TMZ than they are in living their own lives. Why do we give a shit about these people when would could be having our own fun? I just love how HEARTSREVOLUTION mix intelligent political ideas with catchy pop tunes and I can’t wait for that new mixtape to drop.
In honor of Valentine’s Day I thought that I would share with you some bright and happy, totally holiday appropriate songs from one of my very favorite bands, TV Girl. Enjoy!
Danish singer MØ is quickly becoming one of my favorite new artists of 2013. I mean, come on, that voice is amazing. So far I’ve fallen in love with everything she’s done, so I can’t wait to see what’s next.
