I still consider Delorean’s ‘Subiza’ to be one of the best albums of 2010, heck one of the best albums of the last decade, and it’s been a long three years before Delorean finally announced that their second album ‘Apar’ was ready. I almost started to wonder if they had broken up–which would have broken my heart, much like the couple in this video–but all my fears can be brushed aside because Delorean are back in a big way. This Barcelona-based band makes grand New Wave statements with just enough of a breezy Mediterranean fair inspired by their hometown to create a unique musical statement that you just don’t hear anywhere else. And if you thought it couldn’t get any better, “Destitute Time” features backing vocals from Glasser. Their sound is so amazing, you can almost smell the sunshine in their tight Balearic sound.
‘Spirit’ is actually the first official single from the new album. While the song is this huge Balearic summer jam filled with layer upon layer of guitars, keyboards, drums and vocals, the video is a little more minimal with its focus on the album’s cover artwork, which was inspired by Basque artist Jorge Oteiza. With its driving rhythm and choral backing vocals, this sounds a bit like the track New Order would make while on holiday in Ibiza.
‘Apar’ is out September 10th in North America.
