This is the rare cover that makes the original sound like it’s the one that’s suppose to be the cover. Caroline Polachek’s vocals in this song are stunning and somehow feel much more authentic to the song’s period than Beyoncé’s, as if this song were plucked right off a R&B radio station circa 1988. It’s a much more subtle, light and airy version of the song than Beyoncé’s. I love, love, love it.

Despite having the exact same synthesizer-based R&B melody, Beyoncé’s version of the song sounds much more contemporary than Chairlift’s cover, as if they sampled the Chairlift version. You can compare the original to the cover below:
