Major Lazer – Original Don ft. The Partysquad

Remember that mysteriously amazing video I posted a while back with the Napoleon Dynamite-esque family dancing with swords to techno music in their backyard? Well, mystery solved. Turns out it was a teaser video for Major Lazer’s “Original Don” video. This version of the video is equally mind blowing and, it seems, that was not the first time that poor dog dodged death.

OK, no more talking. Just watch the video and we can discuss more if you’d like in the comments.

Summer Camp – You Might Get Stuck On Me

You already know how much I love Summer Camp so I’m not going to try and find a new way to explain my undying adoration for them. Instead I’ll tell you about the genesis of this video. Summer Camp were tapped by cosmetic brand 17 to create a new song to help promote their new Magnetize nail polish and this is what they came up with. This video is about a boy and girl who get a helping hand (or two…) around the house while they watch Summer Camp perform the new single on their TV. It’s yet another great song AND video from my favorite band of 2011.

Niva – Dirty Water

You know I love a good Scandinavian pop song. I just can’t get enough music from my brethren from the cold Northern fatherland. The latest buzz band out of Sweden is Niva, who released a very good EP called ‘Feverish Dreams’ and have just released a new single called “Dirty Water”. Niva do floaty indie pop songs that feel very much in the same vein as Radio Dept. This is perfect music for the cold weather outside.

Charli XCX – Nuclear Seasons

Charli XCX reminds me a lot of Marina & The Diamonds if Marina fully embraced her inner hipster and started making full-on 80’s infused electro pop music. She even looks a little bit like Marina, don’t you think? To me the video looks a lot like if someone made a modern art video installation piece about 80’s van art. It’s a killer track, well worth checking out.

And if you’d like a free download of the song, just sign up for her mailing list here.

João Brasil – Funk Do iPhone

João Brasil is back with a new single called “Funk Do iPhone” to follow up his insanely fun “L.O.V.E. Banana”, this time with Marina Gasolina helping out on vocals. Neither the video nor the song are as good as “L.O.V.E. Banana”, but this is still a really fun song featuring some great Brazilian funk that I think you’re going to enjoy.

Active Child – Diamond Heart / Hanging On (live)

Active Child and their debut album ‘You Are All I See’ are definitely one of the highlights of 2011. So whether you are already a super fan of theirs or still not familiar with their work, these two videos I dug up will definitely put you in the camp of Active Child true believers. First up is an unofficial fan video made from footage from ‘La imitación del ángel’ (Adolfo Arrieta, 1966) that goes perfectly with the song “Diamond Heart”.

I also have a live performance they did of “Hanging On” in Reykjavik for The Line Of Best Fit. Somehow they managed to make the song sound even more beautiful than it is on the album, which is no small feat. Sit back, relax and prepare to be very pleasantly mellowed out.

Yelle – Comme Un Enfant

Yelle is absolutely one of my all-time favorite performers. Her facial expressions are so fun and animated that I could watch a million videos of just her singing, and on top of that her dance moves are none too shabby either. She puts all of that star power together for “Comme Un Enfant”, which looks a lot like the companion video to “Que veux-tu”–one of my most favorite videos ever–except everything’s all in pink this time. This is another fun one that you are guaranteed to enjoy.

Best Dressed Dog – No Less Alone (with a love so cold)

I’m working alone today, it’s cold and rainy outside and I’ve had minimal human contact with the outside world, so this song seems very appropriate for my current situation. With lyrics like “How alone? / So alone. / No less alone with a love so cold” this song definitely feels melancholic, but it does have this amazingly beautiful upbeat melody to it that is highly infectious.

[Edit 8/3/13 — I can’t find this video on the net anymore.]

Pearl Fiction – Run

Pearl Fiction, if you remember, is one member of the now sadly defunct Swedish band Zeigeist who put out a pretty cool video for “The Ruby Fever” about a year ago and then disappeared for a while. Well, he finally announced that a full length album called ‘Painted Wolf’ is coming out January 25th, and to tide us over while we wait we get this video for “Run”. The song starts out sounded a lot like a song by fellow Swedes The Knife, but it quickly turns into a bouncy 80’s pop number accompanied by decade appropriate imagery. Everything about the video screams 80’s, from the lighting to the styling to the fact that nothing makes any sense in the video from one scene to the next. Seriously, five dollars to anyone who can tell me what the hell is going on here. Anyway, this is the next best thing to getting new music from Zeigeist and I can’t wait for that album to come out next year.

Black Light Dinner Party – Gold Chain

Black Light Dinner Party have a new video for their ode to gold chains titled, oddly enough, “Gold Chain”, in which a gold chain passes from one person to another over the course of a day, one of whom just happens to be America’s favorite porn star, Ron Jeremy. It’s a catchy tune perfect to be playing while meeting someone new at a party. (Hopefully this “black” video makes up for the Rebecca Black video.)
