Slow Magic – Youths

Slow Magic has been one of my very favorite new artists ever since the first second I heard “Corvette Cassette” and “Sorry Safari” and I’m so excited that he is releasing an 8 song album called ▲ on April 30th. He’s easily making the most beautiful dream pop out there right now, and you need no further proof of that than to listen to “Youths” below. It’s a testament to how good these songs are that “Youths” is nowhere near as good as “Corvette Cassette” or “Sorry Safari” and yet it still sounds frickin’ amazing.

Double Take – Hot Problems

There have been plenty of contenders over the past year, but I think at long last we’ve finally found a true successor to Rebecca Black. This song is just so incredibly bad–so, so bad–but like “Friday” it’s bad in a really catchy way. It almost sounds like the Bloodhound Gang wrote the song for them as a joke and they took it completely seriously.

I also love that this is the description of the video on its YouTube page: “Old Bailey Productions did not create any of the audio or lyrics for this video. We produced the video as a favor.” That’s literally all it says in the description box. This basically translates as: “Please don’t hate us. We had nothing to do with this steaming pile of shit that’s sure to turn into a giant viral video. Trolls, leave us the fuck alone.”

God, I love this video. It’s so bad that it’s beautiful.

Sébastien Tellier – Cochon Ville

Welcome to C’est Non Un Blog After Dark. Sébastien Tellier’s latest single off of his new album ‘My God Is Blue’ is a straight up disco ode to hedonism and depravity. Like a demented Satanist pied piper he works a crowd into an orgy of sex and violence. I won’t lie to you, it’s a crazy fucking video, but new Sébastien Tellier music is always worth it. Enjoy.

WARNING: This video is very, very NSFW. There’s more nudity in these three minutes than any other music video I’ve ever seen. Watch at your own risk.

Mark Foster, A-Trak, Kimbra – Warrior / Kimbra – Cameo Lover / Miami Horror – I Look To You

I’m kind of surprised that this is the first time I’ve ever actually written about Kimbra. I’ve definitely been aware of her for a while, but she’s always been just under my radar. Still, I was pretty shocked to discover that there wasn’t a single tag on my blog for her considering how many songs I’ve liked recently that have featured her (more on that a little later).

Most recently I took notice of her when she joined Gotye for “Somebody I Used To Know” on SNL this weekend. All of the sudden by pure random coincidence I started stumbling across all of these different videos with her in them. The first of which was “Warrior”, the newest song sponsored by Converse’s 3 Artists, 1 Song music project, where they put three random artists together and have them write a song together. “Warrior”, which she did with A-Trak and Mark Foster of Foster The People, is actually pretty badass, and the video, which is essentially a Mexican wrestling take on the Hunger Games with a dash of Scott Pilgrim, is pretty killer too.

I can’t honestly say that I’ve really loved much of Kimbra’s solo stuff. While I haven’t dug in deep yet, so far I’ve liked her much more when in collaboration with someone else. There is one video of hers that I love though, and I can’t believe I haven’t posted it before now. I seriously remember watching this video multiple times and I even remember (what I thought) I wrote about it. Oh well.

The song I’m referring to is “Cameo Lover”, which I absolutely adore. The song feels like a modern interpretation of a classic Broadway number, circa the early 1960’s. I love the style of the video with all of its bright primary colors and the peppy choreography. And am I the only one who thinks that Kimbra looks just like Milla Jovovich in this video? I can’t get enough of this video, which is why I’m so ashamed in myself for being too lazy to post it before now.

Finally I have what is probably the least interesting video of the bunch, but also probably my favorite song. Kimbra guested on this song by Miami Horror called “I Look To You” off of their debut album, ‘Illumination’. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad video, and in fact Kimbra looks gorgeous in it, but it just isn’t as fun to watch as the last two, nor is it as fun to watch as the song is to listen to. Still, what a fun song.

Miami Nights 1984 – Ocean Drive / On The Run

This is probably the hundredth roller disco music video I’ve posted on my blog but I don’t care, because roller disco is awesome. So much better than regular boring old non-rolling disco. It’s possible the short shorts might also have something to do with my love of it. Or maybe it’s just because it’s more of a product of the 80’s than the 70’s, I don’t know. (But let’s be honest, it’s probably the hot pants.) And hell, having Miami Nights 1984’s “Ocean Drive” playing in the background doesn’t hurt either. This song is basically the embodiment of 80’s synth heaven.

And just because you can never have too much of Miami Night 1984 or people rolling on things (or too much 80’s, for that matter) here’s another fan video, this time for “On The Run”.

Jessie Ware – 110% / Devotion

Although, as I discovered with “Valentine” video, Jessie Ware has actually been around for a little while, it feels as if she suddenly swept in from under the radar and came out of nowhere to become this huge force in modern music with a sound that seems both refreshingly unique and comfortably familiar all at the same time, all part of this new resurgence of 90’s R&B. So far I’m a huge fan, and “110%” might be my favorite song of hers yet.

“Devotion” is the title track of her upcoming debut album, out August 20th. She recently debuted this song live at The Rehearsal Rooms, the performance of which you can see below.

Major Lazer – Get Free (feat. Amber Coffman of the Dirty Projectors)

Speaking of summer jams, you can’t have a great summer playlist without some new Major Lazer. Well, Major Lazer delivered in a big way today with “Get Free”. It’s hard to put a pin into what exactly makes this song so damn good, but it has something to do with its amazing electro-pop reggae slow-jam sound. There is a fantasticly upbeat melancholy to it, rarely seen outside of a Morrissey song. All I know is that I’ve had it on repeat for a while now and I’m still not even close to sick of it.

You can get “Get Free” for free, plus a bonus remix by Bondo do Role, over here.

Elite Gymnastics – Here, In Heaven 4 & 5 (CFCF remix)

Elite Gymnastics released their third Ruin EP a little while ago, and one of the standout tracks on Ruin 3 is CFCF’s absolutely stunning remix of “Here, In Heaven 4 & 5”. Someone took that song and synced it to probably the most disturbing scene in Full Metal Jacket (so disturbing that when the movie cuts to Vietnam directly after this, that’s seen as a relief in tension), which creates this really great juxtaposition between how dark the clip is and how beautiful the song is. It’s also amazing how well the clip syncs with the song with really no editing on the video creator’s part. It’s pretty mesmerizing to watch, especially if you’ve seen Full Metal Jacket before and remember the context of this scene.

Just like with pretty much everything else Elite Gymnastics have done, you can pick up the Ruin 3 EP for free on their blog, or just follow this link here.

Chrome Sparks – So Far 2 Go (Feat. Steffaloo)

It’s a beautiful day today here in Seattle, which makes me think it’s finally time to break out some summer music. “So Far 2 Go” has the perfect vibe for being lazy outside, and the video, compiled by David Dean Burkhart from various commercial footage from the 80’s, is the perfect visual compliment to get you in the mood. You can actually grab this song on the PORTALS Mixtape #3:SXSW Sampler for free here. Just follow the Mediafire link.

I Got Bronchitis feat. Sweet Brown

Somebody auto-tuned that viral video lady who only wanted a cold pop and ended up running out of a burning building, and the song is actually quite good. My favorite part is the “Ain’t nobody got time for that” chorus. I think I’m going to be singing that part in my head all day long.
