Sébastien Tellier – Cochon Ville (Live)

Sébastien Tellier teaches a masters class on how one rocks out a live TV appearance when he appeared here on Grand Journal. Is this not the most badass live performance you’ve ever seen someone do on broadcast television? God, I wish more artists rocked this hard. While there is no nudity in this performance like there was in that crazy music video, his dark rock powers do still manage to get people to take their clothes off, so beware that this video is still sNSFW.

(BTW, how awesome is that lady that announces him on stage?)

[The original video is down.  Here’s a poor substitute.]

Man Like Me – Squeeze

This video is so delightfully weird and goofy. It’s about a Satanist trying to sacrifice a “virgin” to raise a demon/devil, which doesn’t sound like it would be a lot of fun, but once you watch a few seconds of the video and hear this song’s chorus you’ll just know that you’re in for a good time. This is how you make a good music video.

The Very Best – Yoshua Alikuti

The Very Best put out a new single today and it’s pretty killer stuff. Esau Mwamwaya’s vocals are the best I’ve ever heard from him on this track, and in fact this whole song period is probably the best I’ve ever heard from them. If the rest of their new album is anything like this then it’s going to be a pretty great record.

[The video is a play on Lil’ Wayne’s “A Milli” video, hence why you hear a little bit of “A Milli” playing at the very beginning of the video.]

Niki & The Dove – The Drummer / Hot Summer

“The Drummer” isn’t a new music video, but it is new for me, and since it’s one of my favorite songs from Niki & The Dove I thought I’d share it anyways.

While their debut album isn’t even out yet, Niki & The Dove have already made a new music video for “Hot Summer” off of a forthcoming new mixtape. “Hot Summer” isn’t as accessible a song as all their other stuff I’ve posted on here, but if you like their other songs you’ll probably still dig this. Plus the video features some amazing borrowed surfing footage, which on its own makes this video worth watching.

Elliphant – TeKKno Scene (feat. Adam Kanyama) / In The Jungle

Elliphant is the newest female-fronted ‘It’ artist from Sweden, and they have the unique distinction of sounding nothing like the usual music you’d expect out of a cold Nordic country. Instead their songs contain infectious Diplo-esque tribal beats more normally associated sunshine, sand and palm trees. There’s something really infectious about this track that almost immediately puts a smile on your face. “TeKKno Scene” caught my attention right away and is sure to stand out as one of the first real summer bangers of the year.

And as a bonus, here’s the video for “In The Jungle”:

Yacht – Le Goudron

From the song’s Soundcloud page:

“”Le Goudron” is a surrealist revolutionary song originally recorded in 1969 by Brigitte Fontaine with The Art Ensemble of Chicago; YACHT has reinvented its naive-apocalyptic candor for a neon-soaked dance floor, our preferred autonomous zone.”

Translation: If you want to hear a song that sounds like Yelle doing Kraftwerk-inspired 90’s acid house music, you should check this out. Head to the Soundcloud page to pick up a free download of the song.

iamamiwhoami – idle talk

At the end of the last chapter of the Mop Monster Saga iamamiwhoami had gone from dancing with the mop monsters in a barn to dancing with them in a stark white room filled with what looked like generic white Ikea style shelving. At the start of this video she wakes up in a pile of dirt on that same white floor, but the mop monsters are nowhere to be seen. All that seems to be left of them are dirty mop heads. iamamiwhoami is then quickly transported back to the field and then finally back to what looks like the original white apartment the saga started in. It has gotten dark outside since last we were there and the apartment is now clean, but when she opens the closet door a pile of dust pours out at her feet.

Has the entire Mop Monster Saga been a part of an elaborate daydream she had while cleaning her apartment? And is this the final chapter of the Saga, now that she’s back? Does the fact that she’s back where we started mean that this story is sadly finally over, or does the fact that she crawls into the closet at the end of the video suggest that she’s now off on another adventure? I absolutely hope the later is true. And has this series of videos been about sweeping and hiding away ones feelings/problems/etc., or has it been about avoiding housework the whole time? As always, iamamiwhoami leaves you with just as many questions as she does answers.

While it would be sad if this is the end, there’s really no indication one way or the other if that’s true. This is all pure speculation on my part. Which means we might as well start talking about the song, which is just pure amazingness. Enjoy:

Gold Panda – Same Dream China

This picturesque and whimsical fan-video for “Same Dream China” was made from someone’s vacation videos from a trip to China. You can tell a lot of care and effort went into making this video, from the rhythmic editing to cheeky “How To” segments sprinkled throughout. It makes me really want to go visit China now.

THEESatisfaction – QueenS

“Whatever you do, don’t funk with my groove.” That lyric from “QueenS” pretty much sums up the song as a whole. The song has a killer groove that reminds me a bit of Salt-n-Pepa combined with early A Tribe Called Quest or De La Soul. In fact the whole production has an early 90’s hip-hop/R&B vibe to it, right down to all of the dope 90’s style, afro-tastic hair and tribal print clothing in the video.

Sleep Party People – Chin

If you were a party person trying to go to sleep, I think that “Chin” would be the perfect song to help you on your way to Dreamville. The beat driving this song is propulsive enough so as to avoid party withdrawal, but the spaced-out vocals and sleepy synth melody are soothing enough to relax one enough to move the party to the chill-out room of their dreams. The next time you’re having trouble sleeping, try humming this song while imagining space ballerinas and see if you don’t fall asleep right away.
