Like Whoa! – Looking At You

I can’t really think of a better idea for a music video for a song whose only lyrics are “I’m looking at you / You look at me” than to set it to Sergio Leone’s frequent and multiple close up shots on people’s eyes from The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. I mean, Leone basically made his career on people looking at one each other. I guarantee that you’ve never seen so many different shots of people looking at other people in a four minute span than you will in this video.

AlunaGeorge- You Know You Like It (Bondax Remix)

You may remember this outstanding song from my latest mixtape, and if you don’t, well, what are you waiting for? Download and listen to that mixtape! It’s amazing! If you still need a little convincing though, check out this fan video from new Taiwanese dance group ‘Bowl of Lamb Chowder’, and if this doesn’t charm the pants off of you and make you want to download that mixtape right now, well, I don’t know what will.

Anoraak – Made Up

Paris based trio Anoraak have released a new video for their as yet unreleased song “Made Up” from their upcoming as yet still unnamed debut album, which I think perfectly captures that feeling of going into the city late at night to see a live show. They’re actually coming to Seattle soon, and I kinda hope I make it out to see them.

Vocal Slender – Konto

The Very Best introduced me to this bliss-filled piece of African pop about konto, a special type of dance common among ghetto youths in Ajegunle, Lagos. The chorus on this song with the background female harmonies is fantastic and the beat is just killer. If you need a song this afternoon to put a little bounce in your step and a smile on your face, then this is the song for you.

The One AM Radio – Everything Falls Apart

What’s better than a great indie song from a band you’ve never heard of set to a video of stuff blowing up in slow-motion? Not much, I’d say.

Summer Camp – Always

Summer Camp goes extra lo-fi for their latest video, “Always”. Shot entirely on VHS in the English countryside, this Bonnie and Clyde-esque love story has a decidedly do-it-yourself vibe to it, like a long lost student film from the 80’s. The song likewise has a stripped down, primitive synth sound to it that’s very catchy. As “Always”, this is yet another song to love from one of my favorite bands, Summer Camp.

Lana Del Rey – National Anthem

Love her or hate her, you have to admit that Lana Del Rey’s new video for “National Anthem” is pretty f-in’ epic. It’s one of those “Wow, they really went there, didn’t they?” kind of videos. The video starts off with an admittedly kind of crap homage of Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday” song to JFK, and then Lana transforms into an interracial Jackie O to A$AP Rocky’s JFK for the video proper, complete with a recreation of the JFK assassination. It’s bizarre, beautiful, unexpected, shocking, and seemingly shot entirely with Instagram. It’s definitely a conversation starter, not to be missed.

Sébastien Tellier – Russian Attractions

While this video has no Satantic cult fueled orgies in it, Sébastien Tellier’s latest video for “Russian Attractions” is still a real treat to watch. That and it’s totally safe for work! No nudity, just lots of shots of beautiful women dancing on land and under the water in the style of a Busby Berkeley musical. As one astute YouTube commenter noticed, if you just added a few shots of someone firing a gun into this video it could easily pass for the credit sequence on a new James Bond film.

Little Dragon – Sunshine

I got home late Wednesday night, admittedly a little inebriated, and sat down to watch some Daily Show before I went to bed. At the very end of the episode a commercial for Absolut Punch came on that instantly mesmerized me, not only because the music immediately dug its way into my brain, but also because this one commercial went on for over three minutes (which to me at the time might as well have been 3 hours) while barely having anything to do with the product that it was selling. I wasn’t really sure I knew what the hell it was that I was watching, which is probably why I rewound and rewatched the video 8 more times in a row.

Flo Rida – Let It Roll

After seeing his Kimberly Cole audition, Flo Rida asked Keith Apicary (aka Nathan Barnatt) to use his magical dance powers to get hotties in the club to dance to his new song, “Let It Roll”. Keith does not disappoint (although I think we’ve found his kryptonite: stairs). Not only will you learn some new dance moves in this video, but you’ll also learn some new ways to drink your Capri Sun. And heck, that Flo Rida song is not half bad either, with a sick soul sample that reminds me of classic house music.
