Despite it looking like the end of the series with that last video, the Mop Monster Saga continues! (Although, without any actual mop monsters to be seen this time around.) “rascal” picks up right where “idle talk” left off, with iamamiwhoami crawling through the dust in the closet, which in this video turns into a vast desert.
This a more quiet, somber affair than the other videos. The story of the character in these videos seems to be about a woman trapped in an abusive relationship. From the bandages on her body and the hospital gown she’s wearing at the end of the video to the lyrics which imply that she’s molded herself to fit the relationship she wanted to have and has taken up the burden for all the things that are wrong with their relationship, it’s pretty obvious that things are not going well for her at this point. It all feels pretty sad and tragic, but as I listen to the song over and over again while writing this, there’s a real beauty to the song as well. Keep it up, iamamiwhoami. I can’t wait to see where this is going.
