A little while ago asked me if I would make a mixtape for her. The last one I made was probably 7 years ago, but if you’re still reading my blog then you obviously know I love new music and my iTunes is overflowing with cool tracks from around the world that I can share. (As of this post I currently have over 36,500+ songs to work with.)
So what I came up with for her is 2.4 hours of killer music spread out over 35 tracks that I collected by putting my iTunes on shuffle, taking anything I really loved listening to over and over, and putting those songs into a new folder. After only just a slight adjustment of the track order for better flow and consistency I got what you see below. After letting it sit for a while (I’ve maybe listened to it 4-5 times now) I thought I’d share it with all of you, too.
Most, if not all of it, you’ve probably never heard before. I tried to include rare songs that I’ve found all over the internet from my favorite music blogs and exhaustive Google searches. I also purposefully tried not to include any songs that I’ve previously posted on my blog to keep things fresh, although if you’d like me to include blog songs in future mixes just let me know and I’ll happily oblige.
So what should you expect? Well if you do watch the videos that I post then you probably already know that there’s going to be a lot of synth. And that for the most part this mix is one big dance party. I wanted to have some fun with this. These are definitely songs I listen to over and over.
I started things off with some Oriental hip-hop beats just to let you know what kind of ride you’re in for. After that we have some French space disco, dream pop, indie shoegaze, beautiful electronic distortion, thumping electro beats, bootay shakin’ hip-hop, and lots of hi-NRG dance music. I’ve got Hot Chip covering Shakira, two excellent Streets remixes by the equally excellent Royksopp and The Futureheads, respectively, and some oddly beautiful mash-ups of The Beatles and The Wu-Tang Clan. You’ll be surprised at how well they go together. This is music for urban city nights, full of worldly party music. I hope you like it.
You can download my first mix here!
I’m not going to post the full track listing here for fear that some internet police might track my blog down and sue me for illegally sharing music, although if you would like to have the track listing I do have it, so just let me know and I’ll send you a copy.
Also, if you’d like to know any more about any of the artists, remixers or covers, just let me know. I’m having fun making these and will most definitely make more, so if you like what you hear (or want to hear more of something specific) just let me know and I’ll try to integrate it into future mixes.
You have good taste in music.
