I am so fucking pissed off at myself right now.
I make yearly spreadsheets of all of the movies that I watch. You’ve seen the statistics here on this site often enough. On it, I put the day I saw the movie, my grade for it, and all the basic movie information, just so that I have it on file. Well, I was making the new spreadsheet for 2007 and I made a classic mistake you should, never NEVER make: I hit Save instead of Save As. Everything for 2006 is gone. Poof, just like that, it’s all gone. I have no idea how to get it back. I don’t think I can get it back. I just blew it!
I might be able to piece it back together, but never like it should be. Damn it. This sucks so much right now. I am wicked depressed. Great way to start off the New Year.

I think you can get it back. If you restore your computer settings to the day before you did the error, the file might be there.
Whoa, wait, what? How do I do that?!
Well..maybe not for personal files…

OK, I tried restoring it back to December 26th, but it didn’t do anything with my saved files. Once the computer rebooted the files that I made since that time are still all there, just the way I left them. I think the restore only gets rid of things you have installed since that last point. I didn’t revert my files any.
I tried Control F1…that doesn’t do anything. And the Windows Search kind of sucks. It didn’t bring up anything with a .bak file extension. Any other ideas?
Nope. I did a little searching around and it seems like unless you back up your files, you’re out of luck. 😦 Sorry.
If you’re in Windows, try hitting Control F1 – that will bring up the task pane with all recent documents. You may see it there. If not, Windows keeps backup copies of all documents, they used to have a .bak extension. Try a search for that document’s name and see if you see one with a .bak extension.
Good luck!
I checked with Geek Squad and a couple of other computer help places and they didn’t have good things to say. I still have the Word doc of reviews you sent me in June if it’s some help. I’ll shoot it on over.
I have a copy of every review I wrote this year, but thanks for sending that anyway. Thus far I’ve been able to piece together all of November and I almost have December done, which is going to be the really hard one to figure out. I think I’m doing pretty good. I just have to figure out what other two movies I saw at the theater that I haven’t written down yet.
