Thank You, Rolling Stone

In an article in the new Rolling Stone by Rob Sheffield, he says what we’ve all been thinking but were too afraid to say out loud: Dane Cook isn’t funny. He just isn’t. As the tagline to the article asks: “How can any comedian get as famous as Dane Cook has with no jokes?” I’ve been wondering the same thing! Damn you, MySpace! Shame on you for making these false celebrities!

  1. i’m gonna have to disagree with you.
years ago when i first saw anything of his on comedy central i thought he was freaking hilarious.
i’ll say i don’t think he’s as CUTE as everyone does, but i do think he’s original and funny.

    • I do have to hand it to the guy, he does have charisma. But I’ve never found him more than mildly amusing any time I’ve ever seen him. Have you seen his two appearances on SNL? Dreadful! And that new movie of his out now? It looks like the most boring comedy ever made. I’m sorry. The guy might have been funny ten years ago, but now he’s like eating stale bread.

Ah, he fits into the Jim Carrey, Robin Williams “why can’t you just act normal and stop being such a loon all the time” category for me, but “The Friend That Nobody Likes” skit gets me every time. Is he a funny guy? Yes. Is he over-exposed? Definitely.

I never really thought of him as being similar to either of those people. Then again, I’ve never actually SEEN him perform. But the standup that I’ve heard him do (on CD) is fantastic.
