Tiger Woods Spoofs

Unless you’ve been living in a cave with no TV or internet (say hi to Osama for me!) you’re probably aware of Tiger Woods whole man-whore scandal and you’ve by now seen his Nike ad, featuring him looking solemnly into the camera while his father asks him what the hell he was thinking from beyond the grave. Of course the fact that Tiger doesn’t actually say anything in the commercial has made it ripe for parody, and I’ve decided to share a few of my favorites here.

First up is last night’s Colbert Report. He did a whole segment on the commercial, but my personal favorite is the Gene Wilder one.

[Sorry, for some reason the Colbert link was screwing up my whole Live Journal post, so I took it out.  You can just check it out on the Colbert Nation website instead.]

The Lion King

American Psycho

Tiger Gets Rick Rolled

And finally my personal favorite, Tiger After Dentist

If you find any other good ones, let me know!

Greatest Video of All Time (?)

If you could see sound (ya know, without the help of psychedelic drugs) I have no doubt that this is what you would see when listening to Daft Punk’s Around the World. Michel Gondry has made a lot of genius music videos over the years, but none come as close to perfection as this one.

Daft Punk – Around the World from you_want_elvis on Vimeo.

I love how he took each component of the song and assigned a “character” to play it. The beat is played by some odd-looking break-dancers and they seem to be chasing the synchronized swimmers, who appropriately represent the dainty sound that seems to be following (and then being chased by) the beat in each measure. Then there are the skeleton men, symbolizing the bouncy bassline, which only makes too much sense if you’ve ever seen an old movie with a person in a skeleton costume dancing. Then there is the robotic repetition of Around the World, represented by spacemen appropriately doing the robot.

Their dancing changes to fit the song and even the set make sense, as they all dance around a circle stage. The camera always seems to be the right place holding the right focus on whatever part of the song is most prominent at that moment. Top to bottom, this is a genius video.

But is it the greatest video of all time? I think so, but if you disagree let me know what the real greatest video is in the comments.

BONUS VIDEO!

Same song. Different video. Almost as good as the other one.

The Bird and The Bee – I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)

Like chocolate and peanut butter, Hall & Oats and The Bird and the Bee are two great tastes that go even better together. Imagine my surprise and excitement then when I saw that The Bird and the Bee were doing a Hall & Oats cover album called “Interpreting The Masters Volume 1: A Tribute To Daryl Hall And John Oates”. So good. Check it out.

This is my favorite version of the song on YouTube, but unfortunately for reasons unknown the video ends before the song does. Sorry.

Jamaica – I Think I Like U 2

It should be no surprise at this point that I like bands that sound both like they are some long lost band from the 80’s, and yet in no way could have come from any other time than now. Perfect example is Jamaica (formerly known as Poney Poney), who have a new demo with a rockin’ video. It (somewhat) mockingly shows the rise and fall of a hit band in the 80’s using old stock footage and is pretty funny. Plus the song rocks. Check it out:

Caribou – Odessa

Despite having owned their last album since it came out in 2007, I doubt I could identify a single song from Caribou’s Andorra if you picked one out at random and played it for me. And yet I fell in love with Odessa, the first single off their upcoming album Swim (coming April 20th), by the end of the first three notes. I love, love, love this song (the rest of the album is pretty sweet too). It sounds like early Royksopp or Kings of Convenience. Despite the winter theme of the video, it feels more like the first song of summer to me. Check it out and see if you agree:
