“Polish Girl” is a quiet little futuristic electronic love song with visuals straight out of an 80’s sci-fi movie, and I think you’re going to enjoy it:
Time for a little hip-hop blast from the past, going all the way back to 1989. Three Times Dope’s “Funky Dividends” is a song I’ve actually never heard until now and I have to say, it only took a few seconds of listening to this song’s hook before I got, well, hooked. The sample is from Delegation’s “Oh Honey” and true to its name, it’s pretty sweet. I could listen to this song on repeat all day long, it’s so good.
Active Child’s debut LP ‘You Are All I See’ is easily one of the best albums of the year. Like start to finish awesome. Need proof? Check out this video for “Playing House” featuring the equally awesome How To Dress Well:
Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (best band name ever) re-released “Garden” on an EP with new remixes and then decided, “Hey, why not remake the video too?” Why? Well, I’m not too sure. Maybe Orlando made a new ridiculous giant hat and wanted to show it off. Who knows? I personally like the original low budget video a lot better, but “Garden” is still one of my all-time favorite songs, so I thought I’d share the new video anyway.
Since my neighbors have apparently conspired to make sure I never sleep beyond 7 in the morning anymore, my loss is apparently now your gain. I know I post a lot of music videos here and I usually say all of them are must see, but this new video for Cut Copy’s “Blink And You’ll Miss A Revolution” is truly must see. I mean, even if the video wasn’t great it’s still Cut Copy, and that automatically makes it must listen, but nonetheless they really topped themselves this time with a truly original and quirky video. What a great way to start my otherwise shitty morning.
Oh snap! C’est Non Un Blog favorites Summer Camp have a new song out and it’s a real dozy. So, so good. I can’t wait for their full length album to finally come out!
OK, it doesn’t get more obscure or hipster than this. I know next to nothing about these videos other than A) WC Olo Garb is from Krakow, Poland, B) these videos are REALLY bizarre, and C) these songs are pretty darn awesome. His music sounds a bit like a synthesizer-based soundtrack from some lost 80’s movie that even a film nerd like me’s never heard of.
Warning, this second video contains some imagery that may be upsetting to sensitive animal lovers. It’s not anything horrible, but consider yourself warned nonetheless.
“Blue Jeans” is the B-side to Lana’s upcoming “Video Games” single that comes out in October, and I’ll be damned if this song isn’t as good, if not better than “Video Games”. Sounds a bit like Nancy Sinatra covering a Chris Isaak song. You can now count me in as a Lana Del Rey superfan because I ❤ this.
Way back in 2008 I got an email from someone at this new website called Schmap Guides, asking permission to use a photo that I had taken of Easy Street Records and posted on my Flickr account. Seeing no reason why I should say no, I agreed and quickly forgot all about the fact that someone was using my photo on a website not my own. That is I forgot about it until today when I got an email from them telling me that they've just revamped the Seattle Schmap Guide website and my photo is still the one they're using on the Easy Street Records page. Sorry there's not much else to this story, other than the fact that I think that's pretty cool.
This newest song from Symphony of Science (those guys who make auto-tuned songs from the words of famous physicists) is probably my favorite song of theirs since the first one, “A Glorious Dawn,” came out over a year ago. It’s kind of amazing that they’re still making songs about science, and even more amazing that those songs still sound this good. As always, you can download this song for free and see the videos for all the others on their website.
