M83 – Midnight City

If you are one of those people that watches some of the music videos I post but not all of them, then I’ll make your life easier and just tell you right now that this is one of the videos you should be watching. Not only is the song by M83, off of their new album ‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’, amazing, but the video is also stunningly gorgeous to watch. It’s about some kids with telekinesis and telepathy who escape from some sort of government lab to go out and play in an abandoned warehouse. The cinematography is just amazingly beautiful and coupled with the song it makes for a must watch music video.

Class Actress – Weekend

Gah, I haven’t been posting much lately! With work and the new TV season I haven’t had much time to just sit down and enjoy all the new music coming out. Despite what the calendar might be telling you, today is in fact the start of my weekend and in honor of that I thought I’d share Class Actress’ fantastic 80’s inspired song “Weekend”. Her debut album ‘Rapprocher’ should be out now and is totally worth picking up. In the meantime, enjoy:

Southern Shores – Take Me Anywhere

It’s cold, grey and dreary in Seattle today, but despite all that, this song can still make me feel really happy. While this is actually an ad for for Susan Lu, Bend Sport Couture, it looks like a music video to me, and I’m sticking with that. This is the second Southern Shores song I’ve posted in a week, and I also included their song “Antibo” in my last mixtape, so if you’re digging this stuff you should really check out their ‘Atlantic’ EP.

Is Tropical – Lies

This video is a well shot, if somewhat overly literal, visual metaphor for the song “Lies”. It features a stripper who goes home with guys she meets at the club, whom the song informs us tell her that they love her, but that’s all lies. All of that is intercut with footage of vultures, which if I’m guessing correctly (and I know I am), are a metaphor for the men who are picking over her emotionally dead carcass. Subtle, it ain’t. The song is pretty cool though, so I still suggest you check it out. The video does contain nudity, so obviously this is NSFW.

DRC Music – Hallo (ft. Tout Puissant Mukalo, Nelly Liyemge)

DRC Music is 11 producers–Damon Albarn, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Dan The Automator, Jneiro Jarel, Richard Russell, Actress, Marc Antoine, Alwest, Rodaidh McDonald, Kwes–who went to the Democratic Republic of Congo and recorded an album in five days with over 50 Congolese musicians to draw attention to the DRC, and more specifically, the DRC musicians who live and work there. All proceeds from the album they made, ‘Kinshasa One Two’, go to Oxfam’s work in the DRC and to DRC musicians. This video gives you a look into what the recording process in the studio was like. It’s a cool little musical experiment that’s totally worth checking out.

Dum Dum Girls – Bedroom Eyes

Last new post today, I promise.

I still haven’t decided yet whether or not I really like the Dum Dum Girls, but I definitely love this song and video. The song is classic California pop with surf guitar melodies, and the video is totally mod 60’s, reminiscent of another famous fab foursome. This is perfect for your next Sock Hop.

Twin Sister – Kimmi in a Rice Field

I really like this song and I love Twin Sister, but damn does this video creep me out. I almost wasn’t going to post it, but then the theme of today seems to be creepy videos combined with great songs, so why not just go with it?

Kele ft. Lucy Taylor – What Did I Do

Sadly it appears that Kele has parted ways with Bloc Party. I’m not really sure if Bloc Party is going to continue on without him or just call it quits, but Kele definitely isn’t wasting any time continuing on with his solo career. “What Did I Do” is from his upcoming ‘The Hunter EP’, which is out November 7th. While I’d rather have a new Bloc Party album, I’ll gladly take new songs like this one if it’s all I can get.

Summer Camp – Better Off Without You (Live Session)

C’est Non Un Blog favorites Summer Camp did a live acoustic version of “Better Off Without You” for The Line Of Best Fit, and while I already posted the official video to “Better Off Without You” a while ago, the song is so good that I had to post it twice. I just love her voice, I can’t get enough. Summer Camp’s debut album ‘Welcome To Condale’ is coming out soon, but October 31 just can’t come soon enough.

Southern Shores – Meridian

As a sort of music video palette cleanser, I give you “Meridian”. The video itself is nothing special, but you’re probably thankful for that if you just finished watching the two previous videos. What makes “Meridian” worth watching is that it is an amazing Balearic pop song, really chill and relaxing while still being upbeat and fun. Perfect music for a lazy Sunday.
