Random babblings

I find myself lately subconsciously prone to thoughts of sex and violence. Not at the same time, but kind of like an off/on relationship of a light switch. Of course this isn’t really something shocking, considering that I surround myself with images of sex and violence on an almost minute to minute basis. But this isn’t quite the same as subconscious signals shooting out from your brain, where out of the blue you have these odd sudden urges and you aren’t entirely sure why. And they are fairly consistent in how back and forth they are.

I don’t think it really comes as any sort of shock to anyone that really knows me that I have sex on the brain, especially since like 90% of my posts in the last week have had something to do with breasts. The thing is that I have just recently started to notice on television how sex is everywhere, and everyone seems to be having it. Sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, SEX. Normally this wouldn’t bother me, in fact I encourage it, but when you haven’t talked face to face with an attractive member of the opposite sex in God knows how long, it starts to get to you.

This is overpowered by one feeling though, surprisingly enough with the revenge fantasy. These I don’t usually have. If ever. But suddenly quite frequently I find myself gleefully imagining myself beating a certain someone to a bloody pulp and then dancing a jig over their unidentifiable mass of a body. That’s just a fantasy that happens to be much more common than the others are.

Anyway, I’m wondering if these two impulses are somehow related, if because of one the other has been amplified in some way or another, if a current lack of sex has amplified my rage in some way or another, or vice versa. I quite frequently imagine what would happen if I ever saw that someone again, what I would do and how I would respond. Obviously there is the unrealistic baseball bat incident. I would also love to spit on them. I feel that would be fun. Saying horrible, horrible things, that would be fun too. Prank messages, disturbing mail, stuff like that. Destruction and mayhem are all I think about with this person. Not sex, interestingly enough. Which seems to send those thoughts elsewhere and they intensify.

I originally had a point as to why I wanted to say all of this. I forget it now. I should really start writing things down when I first think of them. Oh well. Kill Bill comes out tomorrow and I couldn’t be any happier. When I have some more coherent thoughts I’ll make sure to come to you with them.

This is kind of scary:

Diana Napolis, 47, pleaded guilty Sept. 29 to stalking actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, 24, claiming the star could read her mind and planned to harm her. Napolis was unavailable for comment.

This lady is either very insane, or on to something really big. Can Jennifer Love Hewitt really read my mind? I shudder to think of the implications. Maybe her mind powers come from her overly large and unusually perky breasts. That’s what I think anyway.

You want to know what crazy shit I dream about? This is just the tip of the iceburg!

Gah! Don’t you hate it when you wake up with a splitting headache? What’s up with that? Isn’t sleep suppose to get rid of headaches, not give them to you? I hate that sleeping on the pillow wrong can ruin your whole day before it even starts.

Man I had some weird dreams last night. So weird that they are probably what gave me my headache, the bitches. So I find this cave filled with Predator/Alien hybrids that have been trapped there for a long time. Dead corpses everywhere.

I should probably preface this by saying I was in a weird state last night. Before this I had dreams of my beating a certain ex with a baseball bat mixed with those of this kind of Sim City/The Sims/The Simpsons dream where she was pissing me off by buying all of this prime real-estate for her house so I bought all of the land around her mansion and set up an industrial park. I’m not really sure how the Simpsons fit into all of that, but trust me, it all worked out in the end. Oh, and also I’m doing a lot of driving around the city, a la GTA, although I can’t really remember why right now. Probably had something to do with people being beaten with baseball bats.

Anyway, the cave. There are all of these dead bodies of Alien/Predator hybrids. Looks like this whole big thing went down. Then we find one alive and it’s jumping all over the place while we chase it, until finally it disappears. Then I’m watching (and somehow living in at the same time) this instructional video/documentary about the Alien/Predator hybrid who has transported himself back to 1894, died in 1912, reincarnated the next year and lives until the late 30’s all the while he has become a disciple of Jesus. Oh, and the second time he is reincarnated as a man, and I’m the only one who knows, while everyone is treating him as the second coming. Although he is kind of holy I guess. Anyway, I had to explain to my teachers that he was indeed the reincarnated Alien/Predator hybrid that we were tracking down and then I went back in time to track him down.

Something happened after that, but I’m not really clear on the details of that right now. I found him, we talked, fought, and philosophized on Jesus. Yeah, you heard me. Me and the Alien/Predator talked about Jesus in my dream. I should get my head checked out some time.

Monday is Movie Review Day

I’ve decided that instead of unloading day after day of movie reviews on you, I’ll just lump them all into one day every week to make it easier on you. Monday is now Movie Review Day. This leaves the rest of the week free for other boring details from my life!

——Nixon——

(A-)

I was quite surprised to see that Oliver Stone didn’t paint Nixon as some evil villain of America, but instead portrayed him as almost a Shakespearean tragic figure, a lot like MacBeth. Here is a man who grew up with strong values and yet life kept kicking him down, so he had to take certain liberties to attain that which he really wanted. He was the football teams’ tackling dummy, and later became a dummy when facing JFK in the televised debate. Nixon is an everyman who wants to be someone special, but no matter what he does he can’t catch a break like the more “privileged” Kennedy clan can. Like MacBeth he becomes a victim of his own ambition, caught finally in a web of his own lies. As he repeatedly says throughout the film, the American public can forgive you for just about anything, but if you lie to them it is all over.

At times I did find the movie a little heavy handed though. A little too over dramatic. A little too over the top. But otherwise I thought it was a very enjoyable film, and I feel that finally I can admit to myself that Oliver Stone is actually a really great director when he tries.

——The Last Temptation of Christ——

(A)

I’m not sure I’m judging this film on its artistic methods. If I were to do that then it probably might be more in the A-, B+ range. Instead I reacted solely to what was on screen, and how for once in my life I saw a telling of the New Testament story that actually made sense to me. Here I saw all of the things that were glossed over in Church, and all of the things I questioned, answered. I think in the matter of the duality of Jesus the Church leans far too heavily on the God side, and only barely touches upon the fact that he was also Man. Also, in hearing the stories you do get the sense that Jesus isn’t always in the same mindset. How else do you explain the difference between the Beatitudes Jesus with the Jesus that kicked the moneylenders out of Temple? To say that the movie is sacrilege is frankly an uneducated way of looking at the Bible, I think. To me the book is mostly metaphor. Its words cannot portray the true meaning of Jesus because of the fact that words are subjective at best, vague at worst, and that the book was not written by Jesus himself, but by his disciples, each writing long after he was dead, and each bringing his own baggage to his writing. I like better the idea that Jesus himself is a parable of the human condition. His suffering mirrors our own, and his example is to be an example for our own. I really liked the movie. It confirmed really everything I’ve had going on in my head for some time.

——The Manchurian Candidate——

(B-)

The broad strokes of this movie are actually quite good, but it is in the details that this movie starts to fall apart. The dialog can be quite bad at parts. Characters are overly one dimensional in design, and other characters (like Vivian Leigh, who just happens to dump her fiancee for an emotionally unstable ghost of a man Frank Sinatra, who she instantly falls in love with. Right…) appear for no real reason. The elementary knowledge of brainwashing, the Cold War, and MacCarthy-ism is also quite amusing. The subtext for this film is quite good, the direction isn’t stellar, but very good, and the final act is also quite compelling, but the rest of the movie is so hot and cold that I can’t really recommend this movie to anyone other than as a guilty pleasure cult movie.

——To Catch a Thief——

(B)

The actual catching of the thief in this movie is kind of lame. The whole plot of ex-cat burglar Cary Grant trying to track down the cat burglar using his methods, and thus making the police and everyone else think that he has gone back to his old ways, is pretty lame. The ending isn’t that exciting. The buildup isn’t that great. All and all the pursuit is pretty dull.

What is great though is the verbal sparing that goes on between Grant and Grace Kelly. This is really where the movie should have focused more of its attention. I loved whenever the two of them were on screen together. Great stuff. If ever there were a more perfect woman than Grace Kelly, I have yet to see her.

——The Color of Money——

(B-)

You know, for a movie that has the word “color” in its title this film has a pretty gray, washed-out feeling to it. Everything is so depressing, so broken down and used up. You’d figure there would be a little more energy and fun in this movie, but alas that is missing from it. Tom Cruise hits some new heights of annoying in this movie. He also looked like quite the punk when he was younger. Scorcese again has another miss with me. I just couldn’t get into this. This seems like a film that should have been a lot more fun than it was. The one saving grace of it is Paul Newman’s fantastic performance. There is just something about him that whenever he is on screen you come to attention. If only there were a little more to work with, this might have been a lot better film.

——The Players Club——

(F)

What happens when rapper/come actor Ice Cube decides to not only write, but also to direct his first feature film about a strip club? Very, very bad things happen. This feels like a middle school film class of kids who take the short bus to school made it.

HBO’s new crime drama, The Bushes!

Did anyone see 60 Minutes tonight, where they pretty much implied that George W. is part of his own little Yale mafia, comparing the Yale secret society to the five families? Nice!
