I’m Looking For Some Advice

So my mom told me tonight that she and my dad were thinking of getting me a digital camera for my birthday, in honor of the fact that taking a trip to Seattle in a month.  I’m usually pretty good with the technical stuff, but digital cameras aren’t exactly my forte.  So I look to you, good readers.  Any advice on what I should get and/or look for?

The Stars Say I’m Accident Prone

This morning, for the first time, uh, ever, I cut myself shaving.  Right on the bottom of my chin.  Where I should have been going parallel I for some reason decided today would be better going perpendicular and thus managed to hack a big chunk out of my flesh.  After a bunch of peroxide (is it ever fun to use that stuff?) it stopped bleeding, but there is a massive red clot there at the end of my chin.  Nice.

Ew, Gross

This morning I of course had to do fifteen things at the same time, all before the doors of the store opened, and as I got up to rush to the other room to check on something I forgot that I had left the top drawer of the file cabinet open, thus smacking my upper arm off of its corner like so much meat being hit by the hammer.  I just now looked again at my arm again and it has the most disgusting purple bruise on it.  Yeowch.

Rome Was Not Built In A Day…

…however the entire first season of Rome, just released on DVD, can be watched in three.  Which is very recommended.  Not only is it full of sex and violence (episode 11 is not for the faint of heart), but it is also one of the best written dramas I’ve seen in a while.  Plus it is historical!  Yeah for history!

Let’s all shed a tear for summertime

Well, Summer is officially over early this year.  Tonight, August 21st at 8PM sees the premiere of season two of Prison Break on FOX, thus effectively breaking my summer-long fast on broadcast television.  Sigh.  Let the madness begin again.

I use MSN Explorer as my web browser, mainly because IE is so damned overrun with spyware that it just sucks using it. And with MSN Explorer there is a little box on the left hand side of the screen that I guess is supposed to keep you up to date on current events and whatnot. I like checking out the headlines. I never read the articles. I am curious though, because although everything else changes, at least once a week I read the following headline: “FLA: Non-residents asked to evacuate lower Keys.” Every week. What the hell is going on in the Florida Keys?  Is it just that the locals can’t stand the tourists?  “Hey, non-residents, buy a house or get the fuck out!”  I think that would probably happen in my town.  “NY: Non-residents asked to evacuate lower Hoosick Falls.  And don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out, fools!”

Hell of a show

Last night I enjoying some bizarre dream where I walked off from a business venture in England only to stumble into a bar, befriend the locals, and start making out with a random stranger I was sitting next to when I was rudely awaken by good ol’ mother nature. How so? By the grand opera of the thunderstorm, of course. The entire storm happened right outside my bedroom windows, so that every time the lightning flashed my room lit up like an examination room. No way you were sleeping through that.

You know that thing where you count the number of seconds there are between when you see the lightning and when you hear the thunder, and in doing so can tell how close the lightning is to charring you alive? Well, I was doing that, since the lightning was so impressive. And most of it was way far away from us. And then…flash KAPLOW! Two lightning bolts struck so close to the house that you could see everything in my room shake. Thunderstorms don’t ever really bother me, but when I saw the room shake I started to get a little worried. It was like a train was driving right by the window. I’m pretty sure one of them hit the closest cell phone tower to me, because when it hit my phone lit up like it wasn’t getting good reception, and then in the morning I noticed I was only getting one bar where I normally get four. Crazy stuff.

UPDATE

For all of you who are still wondering, after spending the night outside Max was fine.  Whatever it was that was in his system he got out, and when I got home that night he acted just like he always does.  Which is to say, annoying.  But not sick.  So huge weight off of my shoulders.

Overheard at work:

After hearing from Rachel that there is a website where you can put your family pictures on various objects, including a deck of playing cards:

–“Good, so when you are gambling your life savings away, you have a constant reminder right there of what you are losing.”

After being asked how Steve was doing with some customers:

–“Well, nobody has thrown any punches yet…”

At that point it was decided that if we ever saw Steve get into a fist fight with an elderly customer we could die happy with the knowledge that we had just seen the greatest thing ever, and that if we taped it and put it on the internet, it would be the most downloaded video ever on YouTube.

After asking a particularly odd customer if we could help him out with anything:

–“I already have everything I need, so I’m not going to buy anything.  I’ve always liked Bose products, but I don’t buy them.”

Huh?  I like them, but I DON’T buy them?  I walked away before I went off at the absurdity of that comment.

Why now, huh?

Last night, I get home, I let the dogs out. Ally first, no problems there. Then Max. Now Max is just wandering around, seemingly going to the bathroom everywhere. I don’t know for sure, because, you know, who likes to watch? But yeah, after a while it is pretty apparent that he’s going everywhere. Or at least trying. I’m thinking maybe that he just can’t find a spot that makes him happy or something. I finally get him in the house and then see on the counter a note from my mother saying that he’s been acting funny and that hopefully it should be gone by the time I get home. Uh, no.

So I go change, come back and there is fluid all over the floor in the kitchen. Great. Max goes back outside. I leave him out there while I watch a movie. Let him sort things out. Then I go to bed and he’s outside my bedroom panting a lot and whining. After a couple of minutes of that I let him out again. It was late, so he just spent the night outside. Ugh.

So I guess what I’m saying is I really hope he’s gotten all of that out of his system. Because I’m going to be gone for almost 12 hours today. And we all know what that means…

It is Found!

I finally found my Bent – Ariels CD.  Thank the good lord.  I was (seriously) starting to have panic attacks about it, as I never misplace anything.  I looked everywhere I thought it could be at least three times and still came up with nothing.  Any other CD and it wouldn’t have been so bad, but this CD is definitely one of my all-time favorites.  And then, just like that, I found it.  A total stroke of dumb luck.  I was leaning over my CD bookcase when I saw a CD sitting on the windowsill.  It wasn’t something I was too worried about.  But then it came back to me that I had a while ago bumped into the CD rack and knocked a bunch of CDs off of it.  I didn’t think too much of it at the time, because they weren’t really anything I was too hung up on.  Except I had put Ariels at the top of the stack.  And it was the only CD to fall all the way through the cracks.  Stupid me.  Anyway, I fished it out and all is good with the world again.

My throat is wicked sore.  I was talking all day long.  Not to customers, though, unfortunately.  I’m training our two new employees and basically just spent the day telling them almost everything I know.  It was fun and they got a lot out of it, but damn does that hurt the ol’ throat muscles.
