Put that Thinking Cap On

Does anyone else find it weird that milk costs more than gas, and yet we have a basically unlimited supply of milk, whereas oil we don’t?

Burning the Candle at Both Ends

I have no idea how I managed not to post last night. Especially since I made a point of going upstairs early with the specific intention of updating my blog. And yet, there was no post. What probably happened was that I became distracted by DeepDiscountDVD’s shiny DVD sale and forgot all about why I was on the fraking internet anyway. Oh, now I remember reading from Roger Ebert’s new book last night (yea! I was reading!), although I was really reading just to find more DVDs to buy (yea, not so much).

Yesterday was my Dad’s birthday. Every year he has the same thing: Steak, potatoes, apple pie. Usually my mom makes the pie the day before, giving it time to cool before we eat it. This year we learned why you don’t put birthday candles on a hot apple pie. My mom lit the candles, started singing Happy Birthday, and then started singing much faster as she rushed to the dining room table. The heat was melting the candles from the bottom up and they were slowly sinking into the pie. My dad blew out the candles before the song was completely done and both parents furiously started pulling hot candles out of the pie, which were mainly just wicks now. It was pretty funny.

Ah, How Time Flies

I turned on the radio this morning and learned that 102.7 WEQX is now 22 years old. I started thinking. I’ve been listening to this radio station for 16 years. Wow. That’s a long time to be doing anything. It’s funny, the things that make you feel old.

My Beck Cover for The Information

.flickr-photo { border: solid 2px #000000; }.flickr-yourcomment { }.flickr-frame { text-align: left; padding: 3px; }.flickr-caption { font-size: 0.8em; margin-top: 0px; }

Today Jeremy asked me if I had the new Beck album, The Information. I told him that I did and that I thought it was pretty darn peachy keen. I was going to burn it for him, but then he was like, “No, I want to buy it and make my own cover!” Which made me think, “Hey, I haven’t made my own cover yet!” I thought about doing it a while back, but things came up, I made excuses so I wouldn’t waste the stickers, yadda yadda yadda. But now was the time to make that cover. You can now see the results.

Funny thing is, they give you a lot of frakin’ stickers. Six pages worth. I wasn’t content to just make a cover, because there were so many other stickers I wanted to use, but couldn’t because of space. So I just kept going until I ran out of stickers. Cover, back, inside cover, inside book. Pretty nice. You can see the rest of my efforts on my Flickr page.

Can I tell y’all how much fun I had doing this? I surprised myself. I spent over an HOUR using stickers. A lot of careful preparation went into making this (well, a lot for the cover and the back. The inside stuff…not so much. I was just having fun sticking things.) The cover was the hardest part, because I wanted to use the Beck sticker that came on the front of the plastic case, but it’s placement didn’t immediately jell with what I had planned. I’m pretty pleased with what I came up with instead. My favorite part is the drummer drumming on the head of the toothache on the back cover. I wanted everything to have a very dreamlike quality, thus my weird Beck on the cover with an eye crawling out of his head. He needs the 3D glasses because he now has three eyes (get it?). There is also a rain theme that runs through just about all of the sticker art I made, as if these wacky, crazy ideas are falling out of the sky. Everything feels like it is falling to me.

Me likes.

(Thing I didn’t notice until right now: My inside cover looks a lot like a turntable.  Isn’t that funny?)

Sign Wisdom

Wise words of wisdom:

There is nothing busier than an idle rumor.

So true. And just imagine what would happen if that rumor put down the beer can and got off the couch every once and a while!

This is brilliance in simplicity:

To belittle is to be little.

All I can ever think of when I read this is that Simpson’s episode where Homer says: “And Scoobie-Do, do-do’s!” [Did I even spell Scoobie-Do right? These are the things that keep me up at night.]

DeepDiscountDVD Super Sale!

It’s that time of year, folks. That time when Deep Discount DVD has their semi-annual 20% Off Everything! DVD sale in which I proceed to buy grotesque amounts of DVDs to fill up my already grotesquely sized DVD collection. Because, as we all know, the two things in the world I most need to do are A) get more DVDs and B) spend more money.

There is no question that I will be buying from this sale. The last couple times it came around I participated not once, not twice, but three times before I put the smoking credit card down. So my question to you is: What should I get? What obscure titles do I not yet have but, of course, NEED to have (mainly because they are on sale and all). This question is aimed mainly at Josh, my go-to guy for DVD impulse buying, but you all can feel free to chip in to the madness.

Democracy doesn’t suck for once!

Anyone else surprised that Rumsfeld resigns at almost the same moment that the Democrats take over the House and Senate? Can we say “cut and run”?

PS: My internet still sucks at home.

The Democratic Process

So, today I did my civic duty to tell the Republicans to go fuck themselves.

Or did I? The voting machine wasn’t exactly the most self-explanatory thing in the world. Upon getting home I asked my parents how they voted, just to see if I voted right. Turns out we all might have voted differently.

You see, there is a list of names and then buttons underneath those names. You pull down on the button and a little orange arrow points down. This is the part that confused me, because the way I was looking at it the only way you could vote would be to pull down on the button below the name you want. But then are the arrows supposed to point at the person you want to vote for or are they just there to tell you that you pulled that tab down? So confusing. I’m now confident that this is how the Republicans keep winning elections. Democrats blissfully go into the voting booth knowing that this time is the time we get rid of all those damn dirty Republicans. Then every day after we look on in horror as the Republicans pull another one out of their asses yet again, and curse out our neighbors for being such dipshits. Little do we know that we’re the dipshits.

In other news, I officially signed the paperwork to become Manchester’s Assistant Manager. Woo hoo! Just between you and me, it couldn’t have happened sooner. And because I’d like to keep my job, I’ll just leave it at that.

A Shocking Development

The world today has been shocked and saddened by an event none of us could have ever seen coming: Britney has filed for divorce from K-Fed. If those two plucky kids couldn’t make it work, what chance is there for the rest of us???
