Alright…after coming to grips with reality after deleting my 2006 Movie Statistics file and facing the reality that I’ll never be able to recover that file the way it was, I started the reconstruction project. Lucky for me that I decided in 2006 to reinstate the Monday Movie Review. Because of that I now have a record for almost the entire year of what I saw what day. I can use that to reconstruct the spreadsheet, the only thing missing being my letter grades for each movie, which isn’t really that bad a thing since my ratings meant little anyway. That’s why I switched to See/Miss ratings for my reviews. It’s going to take a while to add back in all of the Year of Release dates and the Director info, but it can be done. It’ll just be time consuming.
This afternoon I successfully reconstructed November and I’ve got a rough version of December done. I think I might be able to put it all back together right, with maybe a mistake or two thrown in. There’s still a good chance I can get all of the dates right, but I’m not hoping for a miracle. As long as they all get back in order, I’ll be happy. What’s frightening is my recall of such things. Using a little bit of logic and my old work schedules I’ve been able to put almost everything back right already.
In the car today I recalled that how I used to make this lists is to Save As the new file first, then delete everything from the old file. Today I discovered just why I did things that way.
