I’ve said it before in this forum and I’ll probably (definitely) say it many more times in the future: Battlestar Galactica is the best show on television. Bar none. You folks know I love TV, and it doesn’t get much better than this brilliant sci-fi show. I just finished Season 2.5 on DVD yesterday and I’m still blown away by how good it was. If there was one good reason for getting cable at my house (and there aren’t many even mediocre reasons) it would be so that I could watch Battlestar Galactica when everyone else sees it and not have to wait forever for it to come out on DVD. That sucks so much, especially since every major magazine is running Battlestar Galactica articles on the upcoming season while I am still trying to finish watching the last one. You just try keeping the season finale spoiler-free in that scenario. Come on, I dare ya!

So wait, why isn’t anyone watching Battlestar Galactica? Fans like me have been trying to jam this show down your throat for months now. Well, it might have something to do with the name. Battlestar Galactica doesn’t exactly sound like the title of the greatest show on television. It sounds more like the title of a crappy Star Wars-ripoff show from the 70’s (which it was). I also realize that some people just don’t like sci-fi, probably stemming from ill experiences watching George Lucas’ puked out prequels and the massacred and redone originals. I too was originally a little wary about watching Battlestar Galactica, but I’m so, So, SO glad I took a chance on it.

But I can’t get anyone else to watch it. Every time my sister comes home I try shoving my Battlestar Galactica DVDs into her hands and I do the whole “best show on television” song and dance, but by the time she leaves again the DVDs still haven’t been touched. What do I have to do, people? Write it out in my own blood? Galactica has given me more “oh crap, I can’t believe they just did that!” moments in each episode than most shows will give you during their entire run. Entertainment Weekly even compared Battlestar Galactica in its recent cover story (pick that issue up!) to shows like Lost and 24. I think that’s an unfair comparison, because, honestly, if you are a fan of those shows they look like crap when compared to Galactica. Do yourself a favor. Pick up Season One of Battlestar Galactica on DVD and get yourself caught up with the greatest experience on television.
