SNL Week Two

SNL last night was a huge step up from the crappy season premiere last week. How so? Well, for one last night’s episode was actually funny. That helps I think.

As for the musical guest: I really hate Justin Timberlake’s music. He just sucks. His singing is all over the place, and he tries to sing black music without adding anything white to it, which just makes it about as pathetic as watching Vanilla Ice try to rap (or play metal for that matter). All those girls who get goose bumps when he sings the word cry and simultaneously traces a tear down his cheek while he still has that stupid shit eating grin on his face need to get some help. He’s terrible.

As for the host: Justin Timberlake was awesome. This is what he should be doing instead of singing. His Aston Kutcher Punk’d sketch had me laughing my ass off as he bounced off the walls. He did way too much singing (really, 4 songs enough for you? Jeez.) but when he was the dancing omelet he could do no wrong. I say we start up a foundation for getting Justin to quit music for good and then make him a regular on SNL to keep him busy.

    1) I am STRONG! I do not succumb to the boy bands. I thought at one time that J.C. Chasez was kinda hot, but fuck that noise since *NSync started looking like characters out of Scooby Doo. However, I have to say, with some reservation still, that I like Justin Timberlake now that he has gone, in part, solo. He’s derivative, yeah. He wants to be Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, yeah. But at the very least he’s got a real band behind him — it’s not like some Britney shit where you don’t even see the people playing behind her, just her ugly ass face. At the very least Justin Timberlake is a little entertaining and puts some effort into it. But yeah, the whole tracing-the-tear thing, I don’t go for that. I would much rather he did the Conan thing and traced the tears into his mouth and flexed his arms. His tears make him strong.

    2) I just noticed that I began and ended paragraph #1 with something about being strong. My ideas run in circles. Anyway, yeah, it was a pretty good episode. Somehow I REALLY bought Timberlake as Jessica Simpson. He got it just right, and I don’t even know how. It might have been just the way he was dressed… but somehow I feel like there was something more. I saw her in an episode of the new Twilight Zone (hosted by Forest Whitaker? Why?) and she was really terrible. Oh, I enjoyed “The Rainbow Connection” with him and Will Forte.

    The lovers… the douchebags… and me….

it puts a tear in MY eye…

when he does that thing. you should know that “Cry Me a River” is track 1 on the “Songs that Make Anna Cry” CD.

i am so upset that i missed that episode though. and, as much as i am loathe to admit it, his comic talent probably does outweigh his musical talent (having seen lots and lots of “behind the scenes” outtakes from lots and lots of televised concerts, etc. yeah i’m a dork.)

besides, anyone who can sing the line “you’re out of this world except you’re not green” in a sweet love song without bursting out laughing gets an A+ in my book.

however, lest we forget, jessica simpson manages the same feat in probably her most popular drippy ballad when she sings, “pour yourself all over me and i’ll cherish every drop here on my knees.”

boy do those teeny-boppers have a sense of irony.
